
Prof. Ioannis Papassotiriou
Dr. Ioannis Papassotiriou, PhD, EuSpLM, served as Director of the Department of Clinical Biochemistry of “Aghia Sophia” Children’s Hospital, Athens, Greece, and now working as researcher in First Department of Pediatrics, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, School of Medicine, Athens, Greece.
Dr. Papassotiriou is a graduate of Biology Department, School of Sciences, University of Athens, Athens, Greece. He conducted his PhD Thesis in the Hematology Field in Athens University’s Medical School. This was followed by research fellowships at ΙNSERM U779, Université Paris-Saclay, Hôpital de Bicêtre, Le Kremlin-Bicêtre, France, (Pathologie de la Polymerisation des Proteines, Substitut du Sang et Maladies Rares du Globule Rouge) and at Service de Biochimie et Génétique, ΙΝSERM U955, Université Paris-Est Créteil, Hôpital Henri Mondor, Creteil, France, (Les Affections Erythrocytaires Héréditaires) for studies in the field of Blood Substitutes and Protein Chemistry.
Dr. Papassotiriou’s major interests lie in the evaluation of new biomarkers of renal, cardiac function and diabetes as well as oxidative stress and hemoglobinopathies.
He is member of various Scientific Societies, such as Greek Society of Clinical Chemistry-Clinical Biochemistry, American Association for Clinical Chemistry (also member of Pediatric and Maternal-Fetal Division, and Hematology and Coagulation Division) and American Society of Hematology (Visitor Training Program Mentor). He served as full member of IFCC Emerging-Technologies-Division (C-ETPLM). (Improving diagnosis and management of patients from birth to adolescence). He is also elected member of the board of the Hemoglobinopathies Section of the Hellenic Society of Hematology.
He received four distinguished awards from the National Academy of Clinical Biochemists-American Society of Clinical Chemistry (Chicago 2009, Los Angeles 2012, Chicago 2014, Philadelphia 2016, Chicago 2018 and Chicago 2020), American Society of Clinical Chemistry Pediatric and Maternal-Fetal Division award for excellence in research (Philadelphia 2016, Chicago 2018 and Chicago 2020) and from the American Endocrine Society (Helmsley Charitable Trust Abstract Awards in Type 1 Diabetes, Boston 2016).
Dr. Ioannis Papassotiriou serves as scientific reviewer for numerous Clinical Chemistry, Hematology and Endocrinology Journals. He has authored more than 280 peer-reviewed publications (see Pub-Med), as well as invited reviews and book chapters, with 11950 citations, h-index 56 and i10-index 218.
