Prof. Halima Bensmail
Prof. Halima Bensmail is a Principal Scientist at the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) and Joint Full Professor of Statistics at the College of Science and Engineering, Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and a visiting professor at Texas A&M in Qatar. She leads the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology group at QCRI. She is an internationally recognized expert in statistical machine learning for multiOmics modeling and analysis, and computational biology, with research spanning multi-omics integration, and AI-driven precision health. She has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including Nature, Nature Communications, Nucleic Acids Research, Genome Research, Bioinformatics, and JASA, and has written several books on probability theory and statistics for computer science.
Halima has held academic and research positions in Europe and the United States and has played key roles in building interdisciplinary programs at the interface of statistics, genomics, and medicine. She is the recipient of several international research awards, serves as a reviewer for NIH and NSF, and actively mentors Master’s and PhD students in data science and computational biology.
